Bumblebee on set at Drexel University

Bumblebee

The Transformers crew was shooting scenes at Drexel University in Philly, and Aleks scored some nice overhead shots of the car down on the street below. (One nice thing about movie sets: the lighting's going to be good.) Even better (for him), he reports, " Lucky for me, I also got to meet Megan Fox." Lucky, indeed.

Chrysler 'Cuda Convertible Concept at Cars & Coffee

Chrysler 'Cuda Convertible Concept

Maybe the 'Cuda is alive after all. While we have speculated about the existence of one ever since we first heard a hint of the SEMA show car from last year, all we've had to work with since are rumors and sketches of what might be. Well, today at the weekly Cars and Coffee show in Irvine, a genuine 'Cuda Concept was parked right in the midst of everything. A convertible nonetheless. It just sat there with only a few people really spotting it for what it was. Considering that real original '70s 'Cudas are plentiful at this show and that several Challenger SRT-8s have already made appearances, it doesn't seem surprising that people might not spot this concept immediately. The surprising part is that it is painted purple with a white convertible top that can't be ignored no matter how hard you try. While the car sported no badges, it wore a mock "NEWCUDA" Colorado plate and had a seemingly stock Challenger-like interior, complete with a Hurst pistol-grip shifter for the automatic trans. While many of the details emulate the 70-74 cars, the bulk says Challenger. Particularly fun is the grill and headlight setup and the Shaker hood scoop. Very nicely done. The only badge we spotted was a big G on the front fenders, the mark of Metalcrafter's Gaffoglio boys. Looks like we have a SEMA '08 preview on our hands.

GM provides sneak peek of production Camaro Convertible

Camaro Convertible

Just like it first did with "official" spy shots of the production Camaro coupe, General Motors has released a pair of small shots showing the production Camaro Camaro ConvertibleConvertible in its current state of development. We're told on the GM FastLane Blog that the pics are a reward for the overwhelmingly enthusiastic response to the first set of shots of the Camaro Coupe, which apparently meant a lot to the team of engineers testing the vehicle. While not much is revealed on these preproduction models that we didn't already know, the second shot shows the convertible's profile with the soft-top up, and it appears that the strong lines of the coupe have not been sacrificed by the retractable roof. Feel free to peruse both pics in our gallery below while we wait for larger ones to pop up

BMW spending another billion in the U.S. to expand

BMW Logo

Heavy fluctuations in the value of the U.S. dollar versus the Euro has made building vehicles in the U.S. a very attractive proposition for European automakers. BMW is looking to expand its U.S. operations by spending over $1B to increase capacity at its South Carolina plant, add more parts distribution centers, and expand its U.S. headquarters in New Jersey. The majority of the money, about $750M, will be spent on increasing production at its plant South Carolina plant from 160,000 units to 240,000 by 2012. The move makes abundant sense given the fact that the German automaker is taking a massive hit by shipping vehicles from higher cost Europe to the lower cost U.S.

BMW is spending $100M on expanding its headquarters and another $170M to increase parts distribution centers, which should be welcome news for BMW owners who can face high wait times for parts. BMW has been tearing up the sales charts in the U.S. for quite a while, and with an added $1B getting spent on facilities Stateside, it looks like the Germans want the good times to continue to roll

More details about the new Audi A7

new Audi A7

AutoWeek revealed more details about the future Audi A7, a model that "will stand for performance, elegance and quality in the fast-emerging luxury "four-door coupe" market when it is launched in June 2010".

The future A7 will be placed between the A6 and the A8 and will compete with models like Mercedes-Benz CLS, the BMW 8-series.

Audi is also planning a hardtop A7 and a soft-top convertible. S7 and RS7 versions are also under consideration. The RS7 will be powered by the RS6’s twin-turbocharged 5.2-liter V10 engine delivering 600 hp to quattro all-wheel drive and a new torque-vectoring system.

Under the hood Audi will put two direct-injection gasoline V6 engines for the A7: a 204-hp naturally aspirated 2.8-liter and a 300-hp supercharged 3.0-liter. Above them will be a 394-hp turbocharged 4.0-liter V8 in the S7 and the aforementioned V10 powering the RS7. The S7 is due in November 2010, followed by the RS7 in June 2012. Gearbox options will include a standard six-speed manual, a seven-speed double-clutch unit and a new eight-speed automatic.

All-wheel drive will be standard for U.S. models, using the quattro system boasting a 40/60 torque split in combination with a new torque-vectoring system to appear in the S4 that is due in October.

Ford UK announces limited edition Fiesta ST500

Fiesta ST500

Finishing off a successful (and fun) run of current-gen Fiesta ST models, Ford just introduced a special limited edition version of its little hot hatch. Painted in Panther black with silver stripes to emulate the company's Escort RS2000 race livery, the new Fiesta ST500 will be limited to just 500 units, hence the "500" in the name. Besides the black paint and silver stripes, this special Fiesta gets black alloys hiding red calipers and an MSRP of £15,000 in the UK, the only market in which it will be available.

Still powered by the same 150-horsepower 2.0L four-banger, the ST500 also features the suspension and steering tweaks that make this car such a blast on B roads. Presumably the Roush/Mountune engine upgrades will also fit here, allowing 165- and 185-horsepower options for those who find the stock 150 unsatisfactory. Those poking their heads inside will also spot a new Sony audio system, as well as ebony leather heated seats and faux fiber trim. Looks good, and not a bad way to finish off a successful run, but we're honestly more interested in a possible SVT version of the new Fiesta that we will be seeing Stateside soon.

Saudi man chromes his Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano

chromes Ferrari 599 GTB

For some Ferrari faithful, every prancing horse that comes out of the factory should be painted in red. Yellow, black, blue and grey are just plain heretical, and perhaps that's why some of the purest Ferraris, the F40 and 288 GTO, were only offered in red. Well, if anything but Rosso Corsa bothers you, then this particular Ferrari will give you the shivers. We can't imagine what inspired this Saudi Arabian Ferrari owner to chrome his 599 GTB Fiorano, but it definitely reflects his personality. We also have to wonder if it helps keep the car cooler in the hot sun. No matter his reasoning, he's guaranteed himself plenty of looks

2010 Mazda 9 renderings

Mazda 9

Mazda will get into the luxury car market with the launch of the new Mazda 9 in 2010. The Mazda 9 will feature the same Nagare (”flow) styling and will feature sliced glasshouse that meets the tailgate seamlessly, echoing the shape of a classic coupe and offering maximum space.

Mazda considers a new 929 (9, as it would be known under the current naming scheme) is a requisite in the US market and would likely be financially viable overseas where Mazda is booming.

Rolls-Royce expects RR4 to more than double sales, might get twin-turbo V8

RR4

The baby Rolls-Royce, perhaps called the Silver Ghost and arriving in 2010, will more than double the firm's sales according to Rolls-Royce CEO Ian Robertson. While sales figures currently hover around 1,000 per year for Rolls-Royce, we don't know if the figure he's talking about doubling will include the Phantom Coupe, which goes on sale later this year. The RR4 -- the baby Phantom's code name for now -- will share a platform with the upcoming 7-Series and is expected to give the scales a workout at 5,000-plus pounds.

The engine choice is still a mystery. Some speculate that there will be a twin-turbocharged version of BMW's 4.4-liter V8. However, Robertson has said that Rolls-Royce engines will remain unique to Rolls-Royce, in which case a 12-cylinder motor, unshared with any BMW product and smaller than the Phantom's, has been suggested. And in a nod to green, a diesel option is being floated after the car's introduction.

The car with which the RR4 will compete, Bentley's Continental Flying Spur, has suffered no ill-will for using a VW engine in its Continental series, so perhaps Rolls-Royce will be more welcoming of BMW power when the time comes. The new Rolls is expected to be priced between $250,000 and $300,000, which is considered "entry-level" for this brand.

Nissan GT-R Spec-V may debut in Paris and go on sale by December

Nissan GT-R Spec-V

According to Car and Driver, a preliminary version of the Nissan GT-R V-Spec -- that stands for Victory Specification, mind you -- could be unveiled at the Paris Motor Show later this year and may even be ready for sale by the end of the year. The V-Spec, whose actual specs have not been revealed, is the even better, faster, stronger version of the plain old blindingly fast Nissan GT-R. The V will be lower and more powerful than the regular GT-R, but no one knows yet by exactly how much.

Apparently Nissan has also admitted that the $70,000 GT-R is currently a loss-leader. As the company rolls out more cars on the same platform, like an Infiniti version in a year or so, the GT-R's balance sheet will begin to show profit. Speaking of that Infiniti version, it will be intriguing to see how they combine Nissan gadgetry with Infiniti luxury. And although the V-Spec could be shown in just a few months and on sale by December, it isn't expected to go on sale in the U.S. until 2010.

Danica Patrick scores full test with Honda F1

Danica Patrick

Danica Patrick, who races for the Honda-powered Andretti-Green IRL team, has spoken of wanting to make the jump to the world's premier form of motorsport, Formula 1. Later this year, according to Honda F1 CEO Nick Fry, the team is going to give her that chance. Danica will be put into Honda's Earth Dreams F1 car in November, probably at the Barcelona or Jerez tracks in Spain, for a full-scale test. Said Fry, "We will put her into our car after the season at the latest and see how quick she is."

The recent record of IndyCar drivers succeeding on the other side of the pond is mixed. It's still too early to tell with Sebastian Bourdais at Toro Rosso, though he appears to be handling things well enough. Jacques Villeneuve did well, but Michael Andretti did not. Scott Dixon, the 2003 IRL champ and 2008 Indy 500 winner tested with Williams-BMW in 2004, but didn't get a seat. Danica's already won a place in U.S. racing history. We'll find out in November if she's fast enough to do it in Europe, as well

Mystery car spotted during Transformers 2 filming

Transformers 2

To all of you Autoblog sleuths out there, it's time to go to work. The silver car in the picture above was spotted on the set of Transfomers 2 filming in Pennsylvania. The wheels (cartoonishly large out back) and lines, and the fact that GM is a major player in the film, would seem to suggest it's some sort of GM product or concept -- although not the Corvette ZR-1, as some have claimed. It's also got the same concept mirrors that GM loves to use and kind of looks like Bumblebee's evil Decepticon twin. The shooter also said that the car has scissor doors like a Lamborghini. Follow the link to see more pictures from the filming, and let us know what you think the mystery car is.

Confirmed: Chrysler still working on compact Hornet

Hornet

It's been so long since we've heard anything new regarding the Dodge Hornet concept from way back in 2006 that you could be forgiven for assuming it was dead on arrival. Not so, according to Thomas Hausch, ChryCo's veep for international purchasing, who says that the automaker is hard at work developing its Hornet model. Not that it's particularly shocking that Chrysler would be doing everything in its power to bring more small cars to market, considering that sales in that segment are so strong in the face of $4 per gallon gasoline.

It has long been assumed that the tie-up with Chinese automaker Chery would yield the first Chrysler compact, but remember that Chrysler recently made a deal with Nissan. In that arrangement, Nissan would get a version of the Dodge Ram in exchange for a Nissan-built small designed and developed by Chrysler. So perhaps the Hornet will actually come from Nissan. Whatever the case, the American automaker is in desperate need of a good compact vehicle as quickly as possible.

Volkswagen recalls 2009 Tiguan, 2008 Passat and Wagon for "Engine Surge"

2009 Tiguan

Volkswagen is recalling 4,000 2008 Passats and 2009 Tiguans for an "engine surging" issue. The problem is an engine control module that may not control engine idle when the air conditioning is turned on. In rare cases, the ECM can trigger an unexpected jump in engine RPM, which could obviously lead to an accident. NHTSA has informed VW that since the recall is a safety concern, dealers cannot sell the vehicles until the problem has been fixed. Owners of potentially affected vehicles are being told not to operate the air conditioning until a VW dealer has serviced the ECM, which is less than terrific news considering it's June and temperatures are around 90 degrees in many parts of the country. While it's disheartening that the brand new Tiguan is already getting its first recall, at least the problem was discovered early and there's a fix readily available.

Germany's Next Top Models make calender with VW Scirocco

Top Models make calender with VW Scirocco

I admit it, I watch America's Next Top Model. It's not as good as Project Runway or So You Think You Can Dance, but seems to go through three seasons every year so there's always a new episode to watch. As with any reality show, ANTM is also produced in a number of foreign countries, including Germany, which has a good record of producing runway gals. One of its most successful, Heidi Klum, is the host of Germany's Next Top Model and she's also a spokeswoman for Volkswagen in one of the automaker's recent commercials. Thus, it's not surprising to learn that VW awarded the most recent season's winner in Germany, Jennifer Hof (no relation to The Hof) one of the first production Sciroccos made, while 2nd and 3rd place winners got CrossPolos. In return, Volkswagen got a few of the models to appear in a calendar shoot beside their new sport hatch. Being the stuck up star it is, the Scirocco didn't actually show up for the shoot, and the models instead posed with cardboard cutouts of the car. With an attitude like that, the Scirocco will never reach its goal of becoming Germany's Next Top Model

Lamborghini Reventón goes for a ride over Turin

Lamborghini Reventón

Look! Up in the sky... it's a bird... it's a plane... it's an extremely rare and expensive supercar being suspended hundreds off feet of the ground by an Italian military helicopter! That's right, Lamborghini got the bright idea that it could make a big entrance at a conference today in Turin, Italy by having its halo car, the Reventón, flown in by military helicopter and placed atop the roof the Lingotto building, wherever that is. The conference, which was hosted by Lamborghini and about the Italian automaker, was called "Lamborghini and speed – a project in record time". It was apparently about how Lamborghini developed the Reventón so quickly and attended by "local, international and academic VIPs" as part of a larger conference called "Turin 2008 – World Design Capital". Hopefully this particular Reventón, of which only 20 will be made, stays firmly placed on terra firma from now on.

BMW GINA Light Visionary Model revealed

BMW GINA

The BMW GINA Light Visionary Model that was seen via video being installed in the BMW Museum in Munich last week has finally been revealed, and the futuristic design study shows how BMW designers are thinking outside of the box when it comes to the materials that make up a car and also how the car relates to the driver. GINA stands for "Geometry and Functions in 'N' Adaptations", which basically means that designers from both BMW and BMW Group DesignworksUSA were allowed to throw out the rulebook. This is most evident in the GINA Light Visionary Model's outer skin, which is made entirely out of textile fabric that's pulled taut around a frame of metal and carbon fiber wires. The skeleton of the car is controlled by electro-hydraulic devices and can actually move and change shape beneath the fabric skin. For instance, the headlights of the concept can be exposed or hidden by the car's skin just like blinking eyes, and the hood opens from the center as the fabric parts to expose the engine. This idea extends to the interior, where BMW designers have made visible only those instruments that are required at a certain time, while the rest of the time the same fabric interior "blinks" them out of view. The car itself looks somewhat like a Z4 Roadster, though after viewing the extensive gallery of high-res images below, you'll be amazed how much the outer skin looks like normal sheetmetal. Until, that is, you see how the doors open. They lift up in a semi-scissor fashion and since there are no exposed hinges, the fabric artfully binds up as the door swings open. While the design of the GINA Light Visionary Model is very Bangle-esque with concave and convex surfaces intermingling everywhere you look, it looks appropriate and natural here. The car is very much a concept, meant more to inspire BMW's own designers and engineers rather than excite the public, but now we're excited about shape-changin, fabric-covered cars, anyway.

Porsche 911 gets XM Radio and XM NavTraffic

Porsche 911

While its SUV sibling, the Porsche Cayenne, has offered satellite radio since 2005, the Porsche 911 has gone without. So in addition to direct-injection and a new seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, the 2009 Porsche 911 will also get the availability of XM Satellite Radio straight from the factory. In addition to 170 channels of music, sports, news, talk and entertainment, the satellite radio service will include XM NavTraffic, as well. The digital traffic service offers drivers up-to-date traffic and incident information. All customers who take delivery of a 2009 Porsche equipped with XM Radio and XM NavTraffic will enjoy a three-month complimentary subscription, but they'll probably enjoy the fact that they're driving a Porsche 911 even more.

PRESS RELEASE

XM NavTraffic feeds data on incidents, such as accidents and road construction, directly to a vehicle's GPS navigation system via XM's satellite and ground network. The driver is alerted to these incidents through the navigation screen, allowing him or her to route around a jam before getting caught in traffic. Where available, XM NavTraffic provides real-time traffic information by using red, yellow and green color codes to indicate high, medium and low congestion levels.

All 2009 Porsche vehicles equipped with XM Radio and XM NavTraffic come with a three-month complimentary subscription.

Hertz adding Corvette ZHZ to Fun Collection

Corvette ZHZ

Whenever we rent a car from Hertz, we always peruse the Fun Collection then settle on a cheap economy car that won't break the bank. Today Hertz announced that it's adding a new model to the Fun Collection that may change our renting habits this summer. Just like it did with Ford when the rental company offered the Mustang GT-H, Hertz has teamed with General Motors to offer the Corvette ZHZ, a specially customized model of the famous sports car for rental customers to abuse this summer. The car is finished in Hertz' trademark yellow color with a black stripe that starts around the Corvette emblem on the hood and travels back over the roof. It's basically a run-of-the-mill Corvette Coupe with the optional optional dual-mode exhaust system the gives the standard 430-hp 6.2L LS3 V8 a bump to 436 hp. The only other modification are a set of 18-inch front and 19-inch rear wheels that are chromed and feature seven spokes apiece, and some special "Hertz" and "ZHZ" badging. Only 500 examples are being added to the Hertz fleet and they will be available in 24 major cities. The first locations to get them will be Las Vegas, Los Angeles, New York, Phoenix, San Diego, San Francisco and Seattle. There's no word on what the rental price will be, but we already know that being part of the Fun Collection comes with a price.

2009 Chevy Aveo5 and Aveo sedan to start at $12,120

2009 Chevy Aveo5

While the outward appearance of the Chevy Aveo5 could charitably be described as "polarizing", its recently announced pricing will likely polarize a few people, as well. Currently, the Aveo sedan and Aveo5 hatchback boast the lowest average transaction price in the United States of $12,258 according to J.D. Power and Associates, but the 2009 model might end that trend with a big price bump for the redesigned 2009 Aveo5. The new five-door Aveo5 hatchback comes in with a starting price of $12,120, which is $1,125 more than the 2008 Aveo5 that starts at just $10,895. This increase is partly due to the fact that the Special Value edition has been dropped. We should also note that the Aveo5 is redesigned for 2009 and features a number of upgrades, but the price bump will still be felt hard by those looking for the cheapest Point A-to-Point B transportation. The sedan version, meanwhile, now has the same $12,120 starting price as the Aveo5, which means its MSRP has actually been lowered compared to the 2008 model that starts at $12,830. Stepping up a notch to the LT model, meanwhile, will get you standard air conditioning and a $14,255 starting point.

Desirable safety features such as dual frontal and side-impact air bags, front safety belt pretensioners, a tire pressure monitoring system, oil life monitoring system and OnStar come standard on all Aveo models. Available on the up-market LT models are XM Radio, leatherette seating trim, steering wheel audio controls, a power-operated sunroof and power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors. Regardless of what you think of the Aveo's styling (we're not fans), its still relatively low price and decent fuel mileage of 27 mpg city and 34 mpg highway should yield a good chunk of buyers for GM's entry-level model.

Chevrolet Announces Pricing For 2009 Aveo And Aveo5

Chevrolet today announced pricing for the 2009 Aveo lineup – including the redesigned Aveo5 five-door hatchback – begins at $12,120 (including a $660 destination charge) for Aveo LS and Aveo5 LS, making it one of the most affordable cars on the market. It costs hundreds less than many competitors and comes standard with features such as side-impact air bags and OnStar.

Aveo is also one of the most efficient cars on the road, with estimated fuel economy ratings of 27 in the city and 34 on the highway (with the standard manual transmission). Aveo sedan and Aveo5 LT models start at $14,255 for 1LT trim and $15,520 for 2LT trim (including destination charges). Air conditioning is standard on LT models and an automatic transmission is available.

All Aveo and Aveo5 models are powered by a new, more powerful 1.6L Ecotec engine that uses variable valve timing and other technologies to deliver great fuel economy and responsive performance. Aveo models equipped with the available four-speed automatic transmission also deliver excellent highway mileage ratings of 34 mpg. City mileage ratings with the automatic are 25 mpg.

"Aveo's value story has never been stronger," said Ed Peper, Chevrolet general manager. "With great fuel economy from the new 1.6L Ecotec engine, bold styling and a hard-to-match roster of features, including standard OnStar, the Aveo and Aveo5 deliver exceptional value for customers who don't want to sacrifice style and convenience for efficiency."

The Aveo lineup offers a high-value combination of great styling and features not expected in the segment. Crisp, sculpted lines and a wide, confident stance define both the sedan and Aveo5 hatchback's design. This broad-shoulder appearance is highlighted by premium cues, including three-dimensional, richly detailed headlamps that extend into the hood, available front fog lamps and bold taillamps that are set within jeweled bezels. Styling for the Aveo5 is all new for '09, both inside and out.

All 2009 Aveo and Aveo5 models come standard with dual frontal and side-impact air bags, as well as front safety belt pretensioners, a tire pressure monitoring system, oil life monitoring system and OnStar. Available features include XM Radio, leatherette seating trim, steering wheel audio controls, a power-operated sunroof that retracts into the roof for improved aerodynamics, power-adjustable and heated outside mirrors and more.

The Aveo's history of low ownership costs continue with strong ownership coverage. It has the best coverage in America, including Chevrolet's five-year/100,000-mile powertrain warranty, roadside assistance and courtesy transportation.

2009 Cadillac CTS-V will officially make 556 horsepower

2009 Cadillac CTS-V

We thought Bentley's announcement earlier today that it's adding a Speed model to the Continental Flying Spur lineup was exciting news for sedan fans. After all, a 600bhp saloon that can hit 60 mph in 4.5 seconds and reach 200 MPH is pretty exciting, no? Not really when compared to Cadillac's news that the 2009 CTS-V will officially be rated at 556 horsepower, hit 60 mph in 3.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in 12 seconds flat. No offense to Bentley, but a sub-3-second sedan is about as exciting as it can get on a Monday. For the record, the Edmunds' Straightline Blog reports that the sport sedan's 6.2L supercharged V8 will produce 556 hp at 6,100 rpm and 551 pound-feet of torque at 3,800 rpm. That engine is the LSA, derived from the new Corvette ZR1's LS9 motor and detuned for duty in the CTS-V. Fortunately, the LSA wasn't detuned too much and the '09 CTS-V should destroy its German competition, specifically the BMW M5 with its - can't believe we're saying this - relatively meager 500-hp 5.0L V10

2009 CTS-V Performance Reaches The Stratosphere

Certified at 556 horsepower, acceleration times are top among V-8 sedans

MILFORD, Mich. - As final testing of the limited-edition 2009 CTS-V nears completion, the results suggest that Cadillac's upcoming sports sedan is entering the stratosphere of the world's highest-performing cars. Cadillac announces the following performance specifications for all-new 2009 CTS-V:

CTS-V, with its supercharged 6.2-liter LSA engine, has achieved SAE-certified peak output of 556 horsepower (415 kW) at 6100 rpm and 551 lb.-ft. (747 Nm) of torque at 3800 rpm.
CTS-V accelerates from 0-60 mph in 3.9 seconds. CTS-V covers the quarter-mile in 12 seconds at 118 mph. These acceleration times are believed to be the fastest for any V-8-powered sedan currently in production.
More than just power, CTS-V also includes a comprehensive suite of technical and design enhancements, including Magnetic Ride Control and a new automatic transmission with paddle-shift control. Cadillac pioneered Magnetic Ride Control, the world's fastest-acting suspension, in 2004. The new CTS-V employs a new version of this technology, enabling it to achieve a remarkably wide bandwidth of capability that ranges from extreme high-performance agility to the smooth road manners of a prestigious luxury sedan.

CTS-V also manages power via an extremely robust driveline. The car's limited-slip differential is made of cast iron for extreme strength. Its limited-slip tuning enables excellent high-speed stability along with comfortable low-speed maneuverability. The prop shaft is heavy-duty and wheel hub bearings are stiffened and bolstered to manage the car's remarkable energy. Axle half-shafts are asymmetrical, a design that ensures smooth performance.

"CTS-V represents the full extension of our design, technology and performance capabilities," said Jim Taylor, Cadillac general manager. "The V-Series takes the award-winning CTS sport sedan and elevates it to a position within the club of the world's most exclusive and capable cars."

In testing May 8 at Germany's famed Nürburgring track, the new 2009 CTS-V completed a lap of the legendary Nordschleife in 7:59.32. This blistering time appears to be the fastest ever publicly documented for a production sedan on factory-spec street tires.

One of the realistic objectives of the Cadillac team is to make the CTS-V the world's fastest production sedan, as a part of the overall goal to make the V-Series Cadillac's ultimate expression of performance and technology. A video of the car's breakthrough Nürburgring performance is online in many locations, including Cadillac's home on the Internet (Cadillac.com/09ctsv), and at the blog documenting Cadillac performance development (http://Cadillac.gmblogs.com).

Formula 1:2008 Canadian Grand Prix

Formula 1:2008 Canadian Grand Prix
Collisions are a common occurrence on Montreal streets. If you don't run into another erratically-driving motorist running a red light, you're likely to experience a near-crash thanks to the crater-sized potholes blemishing the city's tarmac. Although motor racing events carry some of the charm and character of the venue in which they're held, we wouldn't have expected Montreal's treacherous street driving to translate onto the race track. But then the Circuit Gilles Villeneuve is a road course of sorts. So the hundred-thousand-plus racing fans who turned up at the track for the 30th running of the Canadian Grand Prix, the driving was a familiar site.

Those who tuned in to see Hamilton and Raikkonen duke it out for victory in Canada and the lead in the championship were disappointed. Well, duke it out they did, but while they were trading bodywork the championship slipped away to a third contender that the insiders tipped would play a major role in this year's title fight. And right they were, as Robert Kubica took his maiden victory at the same track he crashed so dramatically on last year. With his teammate Nick Heidfeld in tow, Kubica took his own as well as his team's first checkered flag, catapulting him into the lead in the 2008 drivers' championship.
Formula 1:2008 Canadian Grand Prix
Where were the McLarens and Ferraris in all of this while the BMW Saubers were sailing to the finish line? Hamilton started on pole and after gaining a strong lead, came in to the pit lane under the safety car and yellow flag. On exiting, he evidently missed the red light at the end of the pit lane and slammed right into the back of his rival Kimi Raikkonen's Ferrari, taking the two out of the race. (Those were hardly the only early retirements, however, as Alonso, Fisichella, Nakajima, Piquet and Sutil were all taken out of the race prematurely.) Father back on the grid, Kimi's and Lewis' teammates battled it out for a few points, but ultimately failed to make much of a dent. After having to pit three times with repeated difficulties, Felipe Massa regained his form in the second half of the race and pulled off some brilliant passing maneuvers – including two cars at a time in one move – but couldn't get farther than fifth place. Massa was sandwiched by Timo Glock and Jarno Trulli in their Toyotas, the pair taking fourth and sixth respectively in a strong showing for the Japanese team. David Coulthard, the Scottish elder statesman of grand prix racing, held his own quite admirably to take the third step on the podium alongside the BMW Sauber boys, while further down the line Barrichello came in seventh after some embarrassing mistakes. Toro Rosso's Sebastian Vettel, McLaren's Heikki Kovalainen, Williams' Nico Rosberg, Honda's Jenson Button, Red Bull's Mark Webber and STR's Sebastien Bourdais rounded out the rest of the finishers.
Formula 1:2008 Canadian Grand Prix

This surprising rise of the underdogs shakes up the standings, leaving Kubica with a commanding lead at 42 points over Hamilton and Massa who emerge tied at 38. Kimi Raikkonen trails close behind with 35 points with seven rounds of the 2008 FIA Formula One World Championship in the books, and the teams now go on to prepare for the French Grand Prix on June 22.
