What Have Hair Braiding Styles And Hair Loss Got In Common?

Currently, there is a continuing debate concerning the effects of hair braiding on your head and its particular effects on balding in African-American women of all ages, particularly between the age ranges of 40 and 50. Though the court is still out on whether braids do lead to or at least contribute significantly to balding in more mature women of African lineage, we do know that you have a problem.

Styling one's hair in itself is not really an issue since not only could you see that the hairstyles are really attractive but they help you save a lot of time when you're on a busy schedule. This is particularly critical whenever you take into account the rather hectic schedules of today's career woman. It's not easy juggling, home, work and hairstylist. A pleasant braided hairstyle can last a little while with minimum upkeep, which to numerous women is a godsend.

A Caution About The Style Itself

Lots of times you confer with your girlfriend that has just got her hair done and she is complaining regarding how tight it is actually or on deeper observation, you can easily see the scalp being pulled by the hair and from pure observation it looks quite painful. Or how many of us have in our bag a reliable piece of wire or hairpin, pick or as my mum employed "a knitting needle". The aim, to prod and poke at our heads when the braids are causing it to itch, hurt or in any manner lead to irritation.

Better yet, how many of you have "pat the head syndrome". You know to relieve the agony from too tight braids? Well, I have one thing to suggest, when you have to be digging, scratching or patting your hair you've got a problem or problems. Your hair may require washing or treating, they may have been done too tight or the extensions that you've used don't necessarily agree with your scalp. In short there is an allergic problem.

Because you see a style that appears great, doesn't mean that it is for you. Watch out for styles that place unnecessary tension on the hairline, are extremely tight, and are also too weighty. In addition be sure the Stylist, Hairdresser or your cousin is familiar with what he/she is doing before going to let that individual touch your hair.

Health Related Look At Braids Plus Hair-loss

According to a medical study reported on CNN, doing your hair this way has already been linked with balding, particularly in African-American older women having Diabetes. This was originally attributed to "hot comb" syndrome but have been lately linked to braids and diabetes. Now in many ways this is hardly a big surprise since sometimes you'll see friends or other females with braids and all of their hairline is fully gone. My verdict is the fact that most of these females have done it too much, too tight and kept them on very long.

I adore corn rows and this type of hairstyle and have been having my hair done so from the time I was young, with out a problem. In addition I've got a number of female relatives who did the exact same with no problem and many African-American men happen to be showing off "crows"- Corn rows, for years now. Happy braiding to a gorgeous you.

Vitamin B12 and Folic Acid Deficiency - A Theory of Untimely Graying

For centuries, health industry experts have espoused the principle that once our hair starts becoming gray, there's no strategy to reverse the clock on Mother Nature. However, fresh studies have proven promising advances inside the subject of graying hair - and quite a few scientists are optimistic that these new discoveries won't just unlock the secret of gray hair, but will reverse the process altogether.

Researchers know that there are various contributing components to graying hair, such as oxidative stress and genetics; nonetheless we're beginning to learn far more about the role of melanin with the graying hair process, and the way this pigment can also be used to reduce and even take away gray hair. To recap, melanin is a form of an amino acid named tyrosine, which aids in support healthy brain function. As a derivative of tyrosine, melanin is responsible for the pigmentation, or coloring, of our hair and skin. At the same time to giving us with our unique skin and hair colors, melanin's foremost role is to absorb harmful UVA rays and transform them into energy, thus reducing our chances of producing deadly skin diseases and cancers. Insert Melanin deficiency can result in an assortment of diseases, such as albinism an even Parkinson's Diseases - and naturally, this deficiency also directly contributes to gray hair.

Research have demonstrated that hair with higher amounts of melanin are more saturated in color than their deficient counterparts; consequently, when melanin death occurs (which can arise due to the natural aging process, stress and genetics), the hair follicles become much less saturated with color and therefore are effectively bleached into gray hair. So it stands to cause that if a reduction in melanin production contributes to graying hair, then an expansion in melanin production can re-saturate the hair with pigmentation, thereby successfully reverse the process.

And that's specifically what scientists set-out to test. Below are the results of this investigation... can gray hair be re pigmented via a diet of B12 and folic acid.

In a two-year analysis performed through the Department of Dermatology at University Hospital in Uppsala, Sweden, researchers discovered that folic acid, vitamin B12 and sun exposure could help encourage re-pigmentation of one's skin and hair. One hundred patients with vitiligo - an ailment where the skin loses its pigmentation - ended up being treated with folic acid and B12, and told to increase their exposure to the sun. After three to six months, researchers noted that re-pigmentation was evident in 64% of patients, with six patients experiencing total re-pigmentation. [Juhlin, L and MJ Olson. "Improvement of vitiligo after oral treatment with vitamin B12 and folic acid and the importance of sun exposure", Department of Dermatology, University Hospital, Uppsala, Sweden].

These findings were further supported by a research conducted by researchers from the Department of Dermatology at the University of Alabama, there scientists observed that patients who suffered from vitiligo frequently displayed diminished blood levels of folic acid. By increasing folic acid consumption by means of oral administration, researchers reported that patients had re-pigmentation without having side effects. [Montes LF, Diaz ML, Lajous J, Garcia NJ., "Folic acid and vitamin B12 in vitiligo: a nutritional approach", Department of Dermatology, University of Alabama, Birmingham Medical Center].

As these scientific studies have demonstrated, re-pigmentation of one's hair and skin is attainable, given that the individual increases their intake of certain vitamins and nutrients, such as vitamin B12 and folic acid. Graying hair doesn't have to be a "fact of life"; instead, it is possible to revive and increase melanin production within the hair follicles, thereby restoring the hair to its natural colour and luster.

What Is a Keratin Hair Treatment?

A 'keratin hair treatment' is typically referring to a popular straightening procedure in which frizzy or curly hair is straightened and smoothed out through a chemical cocktail including keratin protein. If you've heard anything about it before, you are probably aware of the controversy surrounding the procedure.

What's the controversy about?

Many women and men who have had the keratin hair treatment done are amazed at the results: sleek, smooth and manageable hair. It can seem to be something of a miracle after years of trying to tame unruly hair.

But others have found that the risk is not worth the results. The chemicals used in the treatment are extremely harsh and are known to cause respiratory illness and even cancer in people who inhale the fumes. The stylist and the client should both wear protective masks and perform the treatment in a well-ventilated room, but these measures are not taken as often as they should be.

What's in keratin that causes this?

Actually, nothing about keratin is dangerous. Keratin is a naturally occurring protein found in your hair, ski, teeth and nails. The most effective keratin protein on the market comes from sheep's wool and is used in its natural state to protect and heal damaged hair. Because keratin it's totally natural, it does not cause harm to your hair or your health, in fact it can't even affect the structure of your hair enough to straighten it.

While it can't straighten, it does an amazing job of healing damage. Keratin hair treatments take advantage of this property by exposing your hair to extremely damaging chemicals and then relying on the keratin to repair the breakage and strengthen the hair. It is these chemicals, not the keratin, that are the cause of the controversy surrounding keratin hair treatments.

Can I benefit from keratin without the damaging chemicals?

Keratin can make damaged and frizzy hair silky and smooth. Again though, it cannot straighten curly hair. If you want smoother hair and are not concerned about straightening, you can certainly benefit from keratin hair products.

Keratin shampoo and conditioning treatments can be used to repair damage and give your hair a smoother, healthier feel. There are no risks to using keratin on your hair (but check the other ingredients of whatever product you use), so you don't need to worry about causing damage or potential health risks. Keratin is also appropriate for any type of hair: curly, straight, long, short, damaged or healthy.

What Is the Best Way to Protect My Hair From Chlorine?

There is an easy answer to this often asked question: "find the best shower filter for you." Shower filters are becoming as common as drinking water filters for many people who are concerned about our nation's water supply.

Even the US Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) has admitted that there are too many chemicals leaching into our ground water and not being properly filtered at community water plants.

An effective showerhead filter will remove not only chlorine but other chemicals that are not fully removed at our municipal water treatment plants. Think of all the pesticides, medicines, waste and garbage that end up in our ground water. Chlorine must be added to kill the most dangerous pathogens.

That tells you how strong chlorine really is. It's a powerful antiseptic that is way too strong for your hair and skin. It strips your hair of the natural oils that come from your scalp, leaving your hair dry and lifeless. Just remember how your hair and skin feel after you have been in a chlorinated swimming pool. That's when you need a shower filter most!

The best shower filter is easy to afford and even has a lifetime guarantee. Installation is easy, too. Filtering the water you bathe and shower in will help your hair and skin begin to heal from the years of abuse from chemicals. The natural shine will have a chance to return.

Your first filtered shower will prove that you made a smart choice. No burning eyes, hair that is easier to comb out and softer skin. Your scalp will again have active oil glands to produce the natural oils your hair needs. Hair products will even bond better to your really clean hair making styling easier.

You would not want to even think about drinking unfiltered water, knowing what is deposited into our ground water. Showering is no exception. Your skin and hair absorb just like little sponges. It is important to your health as well as your appearance to filter out the chlorine from water you use to shampoo and rinse your hair and body.

Savvy Americans demand the best products and vote with their dollar. Technology for shower filters has improved greatly because of customer demand for a very efficient product. The most efficient and easily affordable water filters are produced in the USA. FYI -- a 2 stage filter with a Consumer's Digest Best Buy rating is considered the best shower filter.

Ways to Stretch Your Shoes

Have you ever gone out shopping with your friends, or whoever, and while you're out you find an amazing pair of shoes, the shoes that you know you just couldn't possibly live without? The thing is, what do you do when they don't have your size? If you say, "forget it, I don't need them anyway." You need to turn around, go back to the store, and buy those bad boys! I'm sure this has happened to about 95% of women. It always seems as though the perfect shoe for you is always one-half or even one size too small. Or maybe you purchase the perfect pair of shoes, and when you get home, you realize they don't fit. Well, have I got news for you. There are ways around this problem. There are many techniques in which one can actually "stretch" their shoes. You'll almost NEVER have to worry about not finding the right size shoe again!

I am going to take the time to help all of the women, who have this problem mentioned above, to "stretch" their shoes. I have found quite an assortment of interesting ways of doing this. There are the at-home remedies, using a shoe stretcher, and taking your shoes to a professional.

I will list the at-home remedies that I have found, and then I will discuss them further each individually. The at-home remedies include wearing your shoes in, you can freeze them, you can use a damp newspaper, you can use oats and grain, you can use rubbing alcohol spray, and you can also use potatoes. In order to "wear your shoes in," you need to put the shoes on, and walk around in them for a while at home for a couple days. Take the shoes on and off, repeating this process. Within a day or two, your shoes should be well worn-in.

The process of freezing your shoes is very interesting. This process is mostly for shoes made of leather or fake leather. You must have two plastic baggies, free of any holes, and able to seal. Fill both baggies one-third of the way with water, and seal them. Then, place a baggie inside of each shoe, and make sure that they fit the inside of the shoe completely. Following this, you place the shoes in the freezer, and wait until the ice is frozen, or just overnight. After you remove the shoes from the freezer, you must let the ice thaw before removing the baggies in order to avoid ruining your shoes. The idea of this is that the water turns into ice, which expands your shoe.

The method of using damp newspaper is quite different but very easy. You will need to scrunch up wet newspaper, and shove as many pieces into your shoe as possible. Make sure that you do not deform the shape of your shoe. Wait for the newspaper to dry, and then remove it. This is very simple.

The next at-home remedy involves using oats and grain. This method really only works on leather boots; however, you need to fill the boot with oats or grain, and pour enough water in to cover the oats or grain. The idea of this method is that the oats or grain will inflate overnight. However, I would not recommend this method on your favorite pair of expensive leather boots.

This next option is a home-made shoe stretching spray. This concoction is made up of fifty percent rubbing alcohol and fifty percent water. It would be best to use a spray bottle, and spray the inside of the shoe. Then, it is recommended to put on a pair of socks and wear the shoe for about twenty minutes while still wet. This should stretch the shoe out pretty well.

The last at-home remedy, which is sort of weird, is using a potato. Who would have thought? But this remedy is almost the simplest of all of the above mentioned. All you have to do is peel the potato (one that is large enough to create a bulge in the shoe) and let it sit over night.

If you haven't caught on yet, there is an increasingly commonality on the methods of stretching the shoes. It is quite easy to see that all you need is something that will expand and hold position, while being inside your shoe for a decent amount of time. But also, besides these home remedies, there are still some other options for stretching your shoes. These include using an actual shoe stretcher (on leather shoes), just being patient, and last but not least, go to a professional to have the shoe stretched.

Shoe stretchers are made of wood, and are designed in the shape of a foot. Most shoe stretches have adjustments that help with stretching the shoes. Also, shoe stretches are able to adjust not only the length, but also the width too.

The idea of just being patient, and going slow with stretching your shoe is pretty much the same idea as wearing your shoes in. It is a known fact that you can't go anywhere and buy a shoe that will fit your foot just perfectly, unless of course you're having them custom made. All shoes need time to adjust themselves and mold themselves to the exact shape of your foot, so be patient.

Finally, the last method of shoe stretching is to just visit a professional shoe stretcher. This is probably the easiest method of them all, but the most costly. However, if it is an expensive shoe that you just love, then it is well worth the cost of a professional shoe stretcher.

Now that I have given you this information on all of the different ways (I'm sure there are more methods) to stretch your shoes, don't be so afraid to buy a pair that may be one-half size too small. There are some great techniques mentioned above that I have actually used myself and can assure you that they do work.

Very Helpful Tips To Avoid Wardrobe Malfunctions

If I recall the innumerous accounts when I have been embarrassed because something went wrong with my attire, I could write a book on it. Anyway I never got to writing a book but I definitely started writing blogs to help my mates around the globe with some great tips that they can use. The prom season being around everyone has either got their dress or have atleast begun the process of finding their prom dress. So while each of us must try to attain the perfect fitting dress one can never help if the dress decides to act badly.

If you are wearing a strapless dress, just stick some double sided sticking tape underneath the neckline. There is a very famous story of a girl who was walking down the stairway and tripped on her dress and fell down. When she got up to her surprise one of her boobs had fallen out. I am sure you don't wish to start off your prom like this. A double sided sticking tape will hold your neckline in place avoiding such mishaps.

I once wore these awesome strappy dress with a really low back to a party. However, I fell ill and lost a huge amount of weight. After that when I wore the dress it looked quite good from the front but the straps kept falling off and Instead of mingling I was adjusting those all evening. Unfortunately, I could not do much. But try avoiding too much weight fluctuations and if that happens fall back on an alternative. You can always unveil the dress at some other party.

The funniest wardrobe mishaps are those when you can see girls wearing beautiful white dresses with their colored underwear peeping through. So remember to always wear nude underwear with invisible hem lines.

If you plan to wear a dress with sleeves and you are the kind who sweats a lot get those underarm pads. All you need to do is stick those on the stitching of the cuff line and it will soak all your sweat. As a precaution use them two weeks before the event so that you can test if you are allergic to it and get proper treatment for it. This is a great way to avoid wet looking under arms.

Over the years I have gone through some of these mishaps or seen other girls go through the same. I have learned through experience some of the small things that we can avoid by just have plain foresight. So my experience will be of great help to you and making you the shining star in your prom dress. So keep some safety pins, a small needle and thread and a double sided sticking tape always handy. They are more useful in your purse than your make-up.

Understanding Different Types of Women's Dresses and Dress Styles

There are many different types of dresses, but how do you differentiate each one? There are different terms for these types of women's clothing. However, most fall into the following categories.

Sundresses

A sundress is worn during warmer weather such as the spring or summer. It is a more casual and usually has a looser fit. Sundresses are usually made of cotton and lightweight materials. There isn't a very specific style for sundresses. They can be many styles with different patterns and designs. However, sundresses are usually sleeveless and collarless. Basically a sun dress is comfortable and loose fitting that allows modest sun exposure to the skin while keeping you feeling cool.

Sheath

A sheath dress is a woman's dress that fits the body tightly. It is usually knee length or falls to the lower thighs. As a result, they are longer than cocktail dresses, and shorter than ballroom dresses. Sheath dresses can have spaghetti straps or be strapless.

Bubble

A bubble dress has a wide puffy skirt with any type of bodice top. It is usually loose in the middle and tappers at the bottom of the dress. The bubble dress has recently become more popular among teenagers and young adults. If the dress has a puffy skirt, then it is usually a bubble dress.

Cocktail

A cocktail dress is a woman's dress that is semi-formal and worn at cocktail parties. The length of the dress can vary. Short cocktail dresses will have a length above the knee, similar to a mini dress. Longer cocktail dresses can go all the way down to the ankles. Basically, a cocktail dress is a dress you wear when you go out in the evenings. Black is a popular color for cocktail dresses.

Little Black Dress

A little black dress is similar to cocktail style. They are usually very short with neutral colors. They have neutral styling, which make it in style for years. These are usually worn at cocktail parties, clubbing, or the night out.

Wedding Dress Topics Explained

Do You Have the Right Undergarments?

Do you have the right undergarments all ready for your big day? To me, this is something that needs to take a little more thought then just a shopping trip. Finding your undergarments is a huge necessity. You are going to have to try on your dress with the undergarments that you have picked out and make sure that they look perfect with your amazing wedding dress. Something else that is very important is that you HAVE to make sure that they are comfortable for you to wear all day and night. For brides, this is a really long and tiring day. You will start out early with getting ready, then pictures, the ceremony, and then the reception. Find undergarments that are comfortable but sexy, because all of know that there is always the "wedding night"! The last thing that you want your undergarments to do is make your dress look bulky or show lines.

Something that you might want to consider is going and getting a properly fitted bra and make sure you have the right size to reduce the bulges and pinches. You will want to have a seamless look from you neck all the way down to your toes. Some of the different bras that you could find to wear are a corset bra, an original strapless bra, a built in bra in your wedding dress, backless bras, and low back bras.

Personally, if I see a bride that has straps showing, it just doesn't look good; so make sure that you find a comfortable enough one that will not show.

Flowers and Textures Are Everywhere

Have you noticed all of the modern and edgy new dresses out that are sweeping the runways? They all have a new vintage and modern flair to them that is just outstanding. Something that I have noticed in many of the dresses is that there are flower and texture embellished all over. I think they are very romantic and stylish. You can see these flowers at the bottom of skirt, at the waistline or all over the skirt. There are dresses that have a couple at the hip of the dress to give a center focal point and then there are dresses that you see the flowers up by the neckline of the dresses. The flowers can be placed anywhere on the dress and it doesn't matter where they are placed, the dress always looks beautiful. To me, this makes or breaks the dress. By having different elements on the dress shows your character. It could be by having these kind of vintage and modern touch of a flower or of course the beading and embellishments that could be placed anywhere on the dress also.

What About Having Two Wedding Dresses?

You are staring to see this happen more and more often with brides in today's wedding scene. Brides have been getting two different dresses for their big day. They will usually find a formal and traditional wedding dress. Nothing different has changes from that. The thing that is different is that they will then find a dress that they wear for their reception. This dress could be a short dress to show off some leg, a more fitting and party dress, or I have even seen their reception dress be in a different color other then white. They usually change into these reception dresses sometimes before the reception, that way when you are announced, you are wearing something different and everyone will be able to see it all at once.

Other brides want to have their traditional dress on for a certain amount of time during the reception. It could be that they want to make sure they have pictures taken in her first dress for the toast, dinner or the cake cutting. And when whichever activity is over, then they will go and change. It is completely up to the bride,as to when she wants to change into her second dress. There isn't a right or wrong thing about this. Whatever the bride wants to do is what should happen!

Matching Your Wedding Cake.

Are you stuck and bogged with so many ideas that you don't know what you want your cake to look like? Some brides want a simple design, some don't even want to have a wedding cake, and others don't know how to design the cake for your big day. Something simple that you could do to decorate your wedding cake is make the cake match your wedding cake. I have seen this technique many different times in wedding cakes. Some brides will only have the lace pattern. You can resemble a lace or beaded pattern all of the cake or it could be a trim around one of the layers. Also, others will go above and beyond and make each layer of the cake resemble a certain part of the dress that she likes. You could resemble the way the fabric flows by making the fondant look as if it had a drapery effect. Another way is by using edible pearls or diamonds, depending on what your dress has on it. Either way you do this, it looks very elegant and it also makes your cake have some meaning to it.

A way you can add color to your cake is by adding your accent wedding color as ribbon or having a tier of the wedding cake this color.

Wedding Pictures - What Every Bride Should Know Before Posing for Her Pictures

Well, your big day is approaching and you don't know how the pictures will turn out because your not a professional model. Will they be good, great, terrible? There are some ideas you can think about and even practice so they begin to feel more natural to you.

To begin pay attention to your stance. Are your feet, hips and shoulders all facing the camera dead on like a firing squad? This is a no-no. Unless the photographer specifically asks, try to stand a slight angle to the camera. And your front foot will extend toward the camera, not away into left field. These points may sound strange, but try them and see how models in magazines look natural doing this. Along with your feet, your weight will be usually on the back foot. Try to avoid standing with weight even on both feet.

Your head can add so much to the camera and picture with a slight tilt. The best way to make this your own is to think soft, flowing feeling in your body and limbs.

For full length shots be conscience of the bouquet and where it is. If it's a fig leaf level (your hip area), then that's great. And if you have beautiful wide hips using the bouquet to rest on the hip bone when at an angle is greatly beneficial. Tyra Banks is a pro at this but she uses her hands and wrists. I saw her in person and the sister does have nice round hips, but she covers them up nicely for the camera.

By keeping your arms bent the flow of your body and waistline is accented and you'll look great.

When the photographer takes a hand or ring shot, have you and your groom raise your hands over your head for a few seconds to let the book rush out and avoid veiny hands.

A big trend today is photojournalism, meaning the photographer will capture the day naturally. However, everyone need some direction for posing to make them look natural. Like, when it's time to photograph bride and groom together and your free to move try to have your groom stand in front of you or at a slight angle to your. Always avoid you, the bride standing square shoulder to the camera.

For brides that are full figured woman, you should avoid sitting positions. And remember at an angle to the camera.

Another trick is to use your hand on your hip or letting a soft curve in the arm and have it slope across your hip. This will slim your hips and waistline.

I can assure you, practicing this in front of a mirror feels funny, but the idea is to have some techniques that you can do and still fee comfortable with. Start to look at magazines with a modeling eye to see how the cover their hips and how they curve their body in a long dress.

What Every Woman Should Know About Their Mineral Foundation

I have been using a popular brand of mineral foundation for some time now. Then last night, out of the blue, I became curious on its quality and looked it up in the internet. I'm not sure if I should be glad that my preferred brand rated number 6 in the Environment Working Group website's hazard score which means that my organic foundation is in the moderate hazard category. 0 to 2 means low hazard, 3 to 6 means moderate hazard and 7 to 10 means high hazard. If this were a firing squad, this means that I am next in line to the first batch. Should I be glad?

I then decided to do some more reading on the topic. According to the website, ingredients present in my preferred foundation are linked to cancer, developmental or reproductive toxicity and allergies. Needless to say, the next day, I reported to work without any make up at all. As I am working inside the mall, I have resolved to visit the nearest organic cosmetics boutique after work. Then I immersed myself in tons of work so I can forget about my product being linked to cancer. And forget as well, that I have been using this brand for as long as I can remember. But sadly, I cannot forget. So I did another research and looked for natural cosmetics that are relatively safer than my current brand. First I looked up the more expensive organic cosmetics line near my office. And to my surprise, their mineral makeup and lipstick is still under the moderate hazard classification! Although it was a few notches lower with a hazard score of 3. What if I want something which is not hazardous at all? What product should I use?

I continued my research and found, at last, that there are some mineral foundations that are under the low hazard classification. One brand in particular use more organic and synthetic free ingredients and very sparingly use toxins like dioxide and MICA which according to studies has been associated to cancer, allergies, organ system toxicity, occupational hazards and Biochemical or cellular level changes. It is also free from synthetic preservatives called paraben, an ingredient in most skin care products like cosmetics, shampoo, conditioners and lotions. These synthetic preservatives are said to be carcinogenic. Several breast cancer studies discovered the presence of paraben in breast cancer tumors.

Contrary to popular belief, not all mineral foundation s are allergy and irritant free. Most organic cosmetics use bismuth oxychloride, a natural ingredient which may irritate sensitive skin and may cause itching when applied to the face or even acne. I have sensitive skin so I decided look for a product that is bismuth oxychloride free, paraben free as well as a low hazard natural cosmetic. Maybe luck was on my side because it didn't take me long to find what I was looking for.

What Women Should Know About Breast Cysts

Rather common in women between the ages of 30 and 50, breast cysts are small sacs that fill with fluid, and in most instances, will thankfully not require medical intervention unless they become large and cause discomfort.

Women should know that the presence of cysts in no way increases their chances of developing breast cancer. In fact, anywhere from twenty to fifty percent of all women of reproductive age will experience breast cysts at some point in time. The cysts will most often disappear after menstruation ceases, unless hormone therapy treatment is used to combat the symptoms of menopause.

Breast cysts are classified as either microcysts, which are too small to actually feel but are visible on mammograms and ultrasounds, or macrocysts, cysts that are large enough to feel and may grow as large as two inches (five centimeters) in diameter. Macrocysts may cause pain and discomfort due to the excess pressure on the rest of the breast tissue.

Four Signs of Breast Cysts

The four common signs of cysts within the breast include:

- Smooth lumps with definable edges felt beneath the breast's skin, usually round or oval in shape, that are easily movable.

- Pain or tenderness in the breast near the cysts or lumps.

- An increase in the size of the cysts or the amount of tenderness just before the onset of menstruation.

- A decrease in the size of the cysts or lumps and pain relief after the menstrual cycle.

All women should perform self breast examinations on a regular basis and know that normal, healthy breast tissue does feel lumpy, but any changes in lump size or the presence of new lumps should be reported to your health care professional as soon as possible for an evaluation.

A clinical breast examination will be done as well as an assessment of your personal and family medical histories to determine if further testing is needed. An ultrasound may be in order to ensure the lump is just a fluid-filled sac, or aspiration, which involves removing the cyst's fluid with a fine needle.

If fluid is present without blood, no further treatment is necessary except for a follow-up exam in a month or so to determine if the cyst has returned and surgery is almost never needed for treating breast cysts.

The Causes of Breast Cysts

The structure of the breast resembles the petals of a daisy and includes 15 to 20 separate lobes comprised of glandular tissues. Each of those lobes contain even smaller lobules that are responsible for a new mother's milk production and tiny ducts keep that milk stored in a reservoir near the nipple until it's time for breast feeding. All of these important components of the breast are supported by deep layers of stroma or connective tissue.

When the glands and stroma become overgrown, the milk ducts become blocked, dilated, and eventually fill with fluid. Although the exact causes of breast cysts are still largely unknown, some scientific evidence suggests that an excess of estrogen may be responsible for their development.

By making a few simple lifestyle changes you may be able to reduce the occurrence of breast cysts. Wearing a supportive bra that helps to take the pressure off the breast tissue can help to relieve pain and dietary modifications like reducing salt intake and avoiding caffeine may bring about relief from symptoms of breast cysts for some women.

What Is The Average Bra Size?

Everybody is always saying to me that we seem to be getting bigger - average dress size was once a twelve is now more like a 14-16. Feet are also getting bigger, gone are the days when size 5 was average - my brother is a whopping size 11.

We are getting taller and broader in the western world. So what is the average bra size that was once a 34B? Two year ago everyone seemed to be a 34D. Although many women still visit our lingerie store thinking they are - they often leave with another size.

I remember starting my shop and being advised to stock lots of 34B, 34C and 34D bras. Well if I did this now I can tell you that I would have a lot of bras sat around getting dusty and taking up valuable space.

We have collated figures nationwide from online and in our store only to find the average bra size currently stands at: 34E closely followed by 32E and 34F. Does that surprise anyone? More importantly does that mean breasts are getting bigger? Alternatively we are more aware that a bra wire is digging in and that it shouldn't so those customers have had fittings and had their size increased accordingly.

But you have to ask, are we changing as generations are born or it this as a result of changing manufacturers, standards and expected norms shifting? The fashion that dictated the way band sizes are made - the expectation of a 36 band and 26 waist that is no longer the accepted norm.

Or is it because we care more about fit these days? In my line of work, women are keen to be fitted regularly and asses changes in bra size after weight loss or gain. And women know more about this now than ever, aware of their body changes and how clothes make them feel. Was there perhaps a time when as a less educated women we would simply pick a size ourselves?

On the clothing angle many of us wear more fitted items, instead of opting for a baggy look in xtra large my hubby now wears a more snug small or medium. His size hasn't changed but that will surely affect national averages.

So what if the average is 34E and I am a 30D, rest assured whether you are a 34B, 34D or 34F you are perfect as you are!

Women and Dating

Is dating confusing for you? How do you find safety? How do you keep your self esteem high?

If you are just beginning to date for the first time, newly single, long-term single, or somewhere in between, there are many facets of dating that can be both exciting and challenging. For example, when to have sex? And what does "having sex" actually mean to you? Do you want to be friends first and leave all physical contact for after you get to know the person or go with the flow of expressing your sexuality as you choose to? Or, how do you decide something that is in between these two? How has this worked out for you? What about all the physical complications and what about birth control?

Besides all the questions above, there is also the question of attraction. How does attraction work? Why do you keep meeting the same "type" of person even if he/she is not working out in the long run? How important is the physical side of things for you? How much do you worry about your own looks?

For straight women, it can feel like men have the advantage in the dating world. Women often wonder why the man didn't call back, even after a very nice time. Women worry about how much to call, how assertive to be, how to get the man's attention. On the other hand, some women find it hard to be friendly with men because of the unwanted aggressive attention that comes with that.

For gay women, it can be hard to find comfortable ways to meet other women, and to have privacy in an often interconnected world where many of the people you might be interested in have already been involved with you or each other!

Amidst all the personal considerations, I believe a touchstone to continuously return to is how to find safety for yourself and how to keep your own self esteem intact. What do safely and self esteem mean to you?

More on sexuality

I wonder how women are deciding about when and how to be sexual when they are dating. It seems to run the gambit from no physical contact and "just friends" until you feel you know the person well, to intercourse at the first date or at a party. Here are a few guidelines that might help you decide what feels right to you:

1. Consider how you think and feel about your sexuality. Are you able to enjoy yourself or do you feel inhibited, shy, or ashamed? Do you find yourself worrying about how your body looks so that you are self conscious and not able to let go and relax?

Sexuality combined with anxiety is usually not very satisfying. Sometimes women who feel anxious about sex use alcohol or drugs to help calm down and let go. Although it can seem to be helpful, there are risks associated with using substances to relieve anxiety. It is important to recognize what you are doing and think honestly about whether it is working well for you.

2. Consider how far you want to go in a sexual encounter. You may feel pressure from your date or more generally from our culture to have intercourse or oral sex. However, there is something to be said for kissing and cuddling. Sex is not only about the "end result" but also the sharing of intimacy and emotional connection. If you feel pressure to go further and you are not sure you want to, I believe it is perfectly legitimate to want a partner who will accept and respect your decisions especially when you are dating and getting to know each other.

3. In high school and college these days there are risks that are important to understand and protect yourself from. Kelci Lynn in her article, "College Dating, 10 tips for dating safety" has some great ideas for taking care of yourself. Her main point is to have contingency plans in case you feel uncomfortable or unsafe. Some of these include letting someone else know where you are going and when you plan to return, going out with a group, being careful not to drink too much, watching your drink to make sure it doesn't get spiked, and having cell phone contact with a friend who can rescue you from a bad situation.

It is unfortunate that women are thinking more and more about strong protections in the world of dating. It's important not to feel too discouraged.

If you do want to be sexual and don't have a steady boyfriend, how do you feel after sex with people you don't know well? It is important to be able to distinguish between the need to have sexual encounters because you feel lonely, insecure, or social pressure to act a certain way, and engaging in sexual activities because you enjoy it and can make sure you are safe and respected. Remember, it is perfectly okay to say "no" at any point. If you find that you are unable to stop yourself from having sex with people when you really don't want to, that may be a time to get some help, possibly therapy, about this.

Many women prefer to know the person they are being intimate with. This adds to the safety and mutual respect of the experience. I would also recommend some discussion about history, physical and sexual. This can feel extremely uncomfortable, but not impossible! Remember that not all sexually transmitted diseases can be prevented by using condoms!

It may feel like dating has become a minefield of danger and complication these days. It is important not to give up on figuring out what you want for yourself to stay safe and have positive experiences. It is also very important to learn how to forgive yourself if you had a bad experience or an STD scare and to learn from that experience. And of course, it is also important to have a trusted method of birth control in place.

When to start over with someone else

If you are single and looking for a partner, it can be very hard to know when to continue seeing someone and when to move on to someone else. A big part of this difficulty can be the fear that there will not be anyone else if you let go of the person you are with.

What can help you decide if you are investing in someone who is not right for you? As a start, ask yourself, does this person have personal qualities I respect and value aside from money or looks. Does he/she listen to my concerns and make an effort to meet me half-way when conflicts arise? Do they show signs of addictive behavior without any desire to address this? Do I ever feel afraid that the person would physically hurt me?

Although of course no one is perfect, certain behaviors/problems can cause serious relationship problems. However, if you are tired of looking for someone, have had a history of relationship disappointments, or feel wowed by someone physically, it can be tough to decide to turn away from them or return to single life that seems so much more difficult than having a partner.

Although women have many more freedoms and rights in our society currently, there are still ways that women can feel "less than" men. If a woman wants to be in a relationship and doesn't find someone, she can easily feel there is something "wrong" with her. It can feel like the whole world is in a couple except for you. And the pressure to find someone can be very intense.

How to cope with the pressures of dating

Feeling secure on your own is the best way to cope with the pressure to find a partner. Once you are in a relationship, it is very helpful to feel like you could survive a break-up and continue to have a meaningful life. If you find someone you are very drawn to, the fear of loss can be very anxiety producing. Learning how to have a good life as a single person is recommended.

It is helpful to work with yourself about what other people think of you. It is so easy to worry and project that others think you are a failure or that something is wrong about you. How can you soothe yourself, believe in yourself more, and learn how to turn what seems like failure into learning experience? There may not seem to be an easy way to do this. One suggestion is to understand and discover how you feel about making friends, both with yourself and with others. It may sound trite, but John Gottman, a noted marriage therapist and relationship researcher says that one of the most important parts of an intimate relationship is the friendship of the partners.

If you find that you have good friends, both male and female, it is important to give yourself credit and find optimism for yourself. If you need help to have more friends, this is a goal you can work on. Even if you experience shyness, have had rejection, or difficult endings with friends, it is never too late to examine how you are in relationships with others and find ways to improve.

Finally, even with all the complexity, anxiety, and personal challenges, dating can still be fun. Intimate personal contact with other human beings is a big part of the joy of life. However, romantic fantasies can cause emotional pain and stress if you are not prepared to do the emotional work that relationships inevitably bring. Self knowledge and awareness, finding ways to like and enjoy yourself, and the ability to say "no" when you need to, are all important parts of finding the right relationship for you. And then there is the magic of connection and attraction. Enjoy yourself and stay safe.

Woman Power Pour It On - The Glass Ceiling Is Shattering, Step Back Falling Glass

How long until women are running the world? From my estimation it's only a matter of time, thus, I dare to ask the question. Currently women control a huge amount of the wealth in this country, the largest chunk in fact. And each day they are yielding more and more power, as they take over top CEO spots and leadership positions. Okay so, if the progress to this inevitable future isn't happening fast enough for you, then perhaps, you are not looking as closely as you might because if you really observe what's happening, things are moving quite quickly in these endeavors and trends.

There was an entire section devoted to "Women in the Economy" on Monday April 11, 2011 in the WSJ - apparently the Wall Street Journal had sponsored an event; Women in the Economy - An Executive Task Force. The lead story in this section was "A Blueprint for Change" and if you have yet to understand that women are prime movers in the United States and soon the world's leadership then you aren't watching very closely.

Indeed there is a very good book I'd like to recommend to you titled; "Influence: How Women's Soaring Economic Power Is Going to Transform Our World for the Better" by Maddy Dychtwald of the famous Dychtwald demographer family. The reason I believe you ought to consider these resources to help your understanding in this matter is because not long ago, I was at Starbucks and was talking to a gal who had felt that she hadn't had the opportunity to rise in the company she worked at, as high as she could have before retirement since she was a woman.

As I listened to her story, I'd say yes, she had a point, but she had also retired 10-years ago, and most of her career had played out in the 1970s, 80s, and 90s. So, she saw lots of changes, but today things are really scooting along nicely for women in business, and leadership endeavors. I'd go so far as to say that the glass ceiling not only has cracks in it, it has shattered, and the sky is the limit for any woman today entering any profession she likes. Yes, it will be hard work, but with stick-to-it-ness, and will, there are few barriers stopping her.

Indeed, it is my hope that you will please consider all this and think on it, and then ask yourself; Where do I want to go today - then set that course and go get it girl!

Women And Their Pirate Costumes

The popularity of media pirates has created increasing demand for pirate fashion, including pirate costumes. Many wonder if the women's pirate costumes of today resemble what historic female pirates used to wear. In fact, female pirates usually dressed like their male counterparts, in sturdy trousers and rough spun shirts that could withstand the harshness of life at sea. Even those who dressed as women wore full skirts that could be kilted up for rigorous activity and fighting. The corset and short skirt typical to ladies' pirate costumes today may keep the wearer cool at an indoor fancy dress party, but neither is practical for a working sailor aboard a ship.

Those interested in a more authentic look should study the history of female pirates, and research the fashions worn by sailors of the time. While there are engravings available for some historical figures, sources do have to be considered. Many illustrations available to modern audiences were initially caricatures, meant to depict the evil of women pirates not only engaging in violent crime considered to be men's domain, but compounding their sins by dressing as men. Thus, such illustrations are unreliable as sources for the women's dress.

Standard men's pirate costumes could work as base for a more authentic female costume. So could, depending on the period, a sailor's costume, or a peasant's. To illustrate how these clothes could lead to a more authentic-looking outfit than the women's pirate costumes, here are a few brief histories of some of the more famous female pirates.

Unquestionably, the most famous female pirates in Western culture are Anne Bonney and Mary Read. Anne served as a member of Jack "Calico Jack" Rackham's crew until that crew's capture in October, 1720. She was already Jack's lover when she began to serve under him in 1718 or 1719, but she waited until her reputation as a fighter was established to reveal herself as a woman to the rest of the crew.

Mary Read also came aboard as a man; in fact, she had been raised as a boy, joined the English military, and only lived as a woman for the brief time she was married. Once widowed, she again became Mark Read, and was serving aboard a merchant vessel when Calico Jack captured it and gave the crew the option of working for him or being killed. When Anne expressed romantic interest, Mary revealed her secret. They both shared the secret with Calico Jack, who was jealous of the amount of time they were spending together.

While Anne and Mary spent their pirating careers dressed like their male crew members, it was their femaleness that saved them both from the hangman's noose. Both pled pregnancy at their sentencing, which delayed their executions until after childbirth. It's unknown if either was lying; Mary Read died the next month. Anne Bonney disappeared from the record entirely. She, too, might have died, or her plantation-owning father might have exercised his influence to bribe her out of trouble.

Slightly less famous is Irish pirate Grace O'Malley. She was born to a seafaring family where she learned the ways of piracy. Whereas Bonney and Read worked at the beginning of the eighteenth century, O'Malley lived in the middle of the sixteenth century. So while she dressed like the men who served with her, their dress differed from that of Calico Jack's crew.

There are many more female pirates, in every time period and from every nation. It's just a matter of deciding which might be of most interest, and then doing your research on her. It's even possible that certain ladies' pirate costumes, with modifications, would serve well in recreating a less famous pirate.

Women in Islam and the Bikini

Some time back I had been to the US Club with a girl friend and was sitting having a glass of beer. One girl sauntered up to the pool in a Bikini and my girl friend whispered that she was a Moslem. Suddenly this bit of information galvanized me and I began to see the bikini clad girl in a different light. The girl which I had ignored earlier as very ordinary, suddenly became an exotic piece to be seen.

Well that is the fact. Moslem girls seldom wear bikinis and those that do would wear them only out outside the pale of the Islamic nations. Why should this dichotomy be there? After all Miss USA in 2009 was a Moslem girl. Ms Fakih carried herself with aplomb.

In the nations where Islamic power is supreme the rule is a set of laws governed by the Shariat. There is also a deep gender bias. After all in Pakistan the gender ration is 105:100 for women and men. Thus in any society that has such a gender ratio the obvious fact is that the girl child is discriminated against. No sports and obviously no swimming and by corollary no bikinis or swim wear.

But we must remember that Islam is not confined to the Islamic nations and there are large minorities in India, Lanka and the USA. In fact India has the second largest Moslem population in the world.

Thus we cannot quantify and say that what happens in the Moslem nations is not the rule as in freer societies the women whether Islamic or otherwise do come out of their shell. India is an example, where we have Moslem girls like Dia Mirza winning a Miss World title and becoming stars in their own right. But one can make a statement that the women in countries like Iran and Pakistan are controlled. Comparatively despite all the rhetoric, Pakistan is not that bad and one Pakistani girl despite all the discouragement did claim to be Miss Pakistan.

The Bikini is a statement of emancipation. But there is also no doubt that a lot many women in Islamic countries may be supporting the ban on bikini and display of the body. To an extent this is true, but to use coercion is not in the best interest of society. This happened in 2006 when one of the Girls from Indonesia a Moslem nation entered a Miss Universe contest in a bikini; she received death threats from hard liners.

Islam is now at the cross roads. The winds of change are sweeping the world, but one cannot be sure in which direction it will go forwards or backwards. It is frankly all very fluid. Women in Islamic societies will have to fight their battles themselves.

Women Empowered Through Business Ownership

Helen Reddy said it best in the 70s: "I am woman, hear me roar, in numbers too big to ignore..." The 70s may have had some bad clothes and disco music, but the 70s also opened the door for women, and in many ways, became the Decade of The Woman.

Women have become empowered over the last 30 to 40 years in wide variety of ways, but one of the biggest ways women have become empowered is through business ownership.

The statistics on woman-owned businesses are impressive and empowering enough on their own:

Women In Business:

As of 2008, there were 10.1 million firms owned by women. (Ownership is defined as owning 50% or more of a company.)These businesses employ over 13 million people, and (as of 2008) had generated $1.9 trillion in sales.Women-owned businesses make up over 40% of all privately held companies. One in five companies reporting revenue in excess of $1 million is a woman-owned business.3% of businesses owned by women report revenue of $1 million or more.According to score.org, 69% of women are more likely to seek business advice than their male counterparts. Only 47% of men will seek advice. (Does this really surprise anyone, give the whole "men won't ask for directions" thing?!)Women-owned business have been growing at twice the rate of all U.S. companies.

Women Of Color And Business Ownership:

Women of color owned 1.9 million businesses in 2008.These businesses generate $165 billion in revenue annually, and employee 1.2 million people.Between 2002 and 2008, women of color owned businesses grew more quickly than any other privately held companies.

Clearly, women are a very entrepreneurial group! Studies have long shown that women are capable multi-taskers, effective problem solvers, creative in approaches to many aspects of daily life, and are often the financial planners at home. These unique skills have lent themselves beautifully to the empowerment of women through business ownership.

Women often create successful businesses because they have identified a need through a specific set of circumstances. Women have created hair care products specifically due to the lack of products they want or need and can't find. Mother's Helpers and Home Fairies came about because women have long wished that "they had a wife." Niche businesses developed for women by women are hugely successful simply because women identify with other women on a very specific level.

There are many opportunities in today's market for an enterprising woman to develop her own business, big or small.

In an article by ask.org, these six start-up business ideas were marked as "Hot Markets For Small Businesses:"

eBay drop-off sitesSearch Engine Optimization and Internet MarketingPerformance ApparelNiche Health and FitnessTechnology Security ConsultingService/Products For the Hispanic Market

However, the list for starting your own business is virtually endless. Take a look around you and see if there is a business need that can be filled.

Other ideas for women-owned businesses include:

TutoringFree-lance article writing for online business promotionsGourmet Food production and sales (Think Mrs. Field's cookies!)Personalized Gift Basket SalesResume WritingVirtual AssistantPet SittersWeb DesignGraphic DesignOnline Affiliate MarketingInternet Marketing Mentoring and Coaching

Many of these business ideas can be started with little working capital. Not all businesses take a large investment for start-up costs. Many of the ideas listed above can be done from home with no employees and no overhead costs such as rent, insurance, additional utilities, etc. And, many work-from-home businesses are entitled to a tax break because you are using your home as an office.

If starting your own business is appealing to you, or starting your own home-based business is an idea you'd like to turn into a reality, then pick a direction, research what you would need to get you started, and join the millions of other women who have been empowered through business ownership!

There really is something to that "I am woman, hear me roar," song. Thanks, Helen Reddy!

Women Need to Have Higher Expectations for Men

Perhaps the reasons that men cheat even on the most beautiful women is because beauty alone, regardless of how much beauty, youth, etc. one has, is insufficient. Even the most beautiful of all women alive have been known to be abused. Something is missing. Perhaps what men want is to be fulfilled in a limitless way. There may be a way. It may be to provide men with their unconditional love. However this unconditional love would have to be authentic, namely it would have to be generated by UNLIMITED, instead of limited, gratitude

We all can have gratitude for something someone does or for something someone gives to us or we can be grateful if we are even able to do something for, or give something to, our self. But we usually take things for granted and need constant self and/or others' attention. If we are lacking in giving ourselves attention, or if the attention from others is lacking, we often choose, sometimes, to distract ourselves from feeling this lack of attention. (Of course while we sleep we give the BEST attention to ourselves, if we dream that is, Sleep is the best attention we or others can give us because sleep, dreaming especially REM states, energize us and this re-energizing is priceless.) While awake, and almost subconsciously, we provide for ourselves and/or our families by working. Sometimes, we may distract ourselves with daydreaming: anticipation of the future, memories of the past, or instead of or in addition to working we may go shopping and we may distract ourselves this way. Of course in addition to working, cooking, cleaning etc., we may use our energy to develop dramas and/or without awareness, we may even provoke others just in order to be distracted by what we subconsciously engineer TO occur.

Women could utilize their energies differently, (of course this means continuing to use ones most available energy to provide for ones and ones families' basic needs). Women could begin changing the world by setting up higher, or the highest expectations for men. For instance, as in the play Lysistrata, (where women went on strike, withholding sex, until men stopped going to war), all of us women could withhold all sexuality from all our men, until and unless all the men provided us women with a realistic utopia, where basic needs for all was a given. As a result, crime would be abolished, since all people would be provided with their basic needs. It would be reasonable then to expect that men could use their excess energy to seek unconditional love from women.

The women, for their part, would decide who to give their unconditional love to, based on which man provided the most just, the most fair community. Consequently, all men everywhere would be competing to show that he or his community provided more justice, ie less inequality, less crime etc., than the next community. In other words, men would band together to compete to make ever better and better, realistic Utopian communities, because the more Utopian the community, the more women would arrive with unconditional love that was generated due to the gratitude of being provided with better and better utopias.

Women's Energy Bodies: Making the Most of Your Phases and Life Cycles

The cycles of women's energy bodies is a neglected area, within both conventional and new age spiritual teachings, and also within both mainstream and alternative healing systems. Note that I am not a healer, so my primary interest in this subject is spiritual - how knowledge and use of our various energy systems can contribute to our spiritual growth, mostly through experiences that are only available when we have full access to our personal power. These kinds of teachings are primarily found in Vajrayana Buddhism and Kundalini Yoga traditions, but I have also found some in various shamanic traditions, pagan traditions, the medieval Christian women mystics, Kabbalah, and Sufism.

The Basics of Women's Energy Bodies

In general, women's energy bodies are more open, absorbent, and fluid than men's. Men's are denser and tend to function more naturally like a shield. We women soak in more of the energies around us - which can become the fuel for intuition, but can also become a source of dispersion and mental distraction.

The sensitivity of our energy body runs in cycles corresponding to our monthly menstruation cycle. During the first half, leading up to ovulation, our energy body is a little sturdier, and we are more outward-oriented in response. In the second-half, leading up to menstruation, we are more sensitive to external energies and often more inward-oriented.

Adolescence: Swinging, Deepening, Settling Into Cycles

Adolescence is when these monthly cycles first kick into gear. In addition to being a phase of intense hormonal and physical changes (including in the brain), it is a period of intense psycho-spiritual changes. Just as a girl's body is transforming into a women's, her energy body is transforming into a women's energy body. And the problem in our culture is that this is mostly processed on a sexual level.

In addition to being absorbent, our energy bodies are more attraction-oriented. We are like little magnets, pulling other energies towards us, particularly in that first half of our cycle. And we are generally socialized to use this power sexually, to attract others (mostly men of course, but friends and admiration, too.) This can prevent us from recognizing that this power, the 'yin' aspect of creation, can be used for other pursuits, particularly creative ones (and I am using 'creative' in the sense of anything we want to create in our lives, not just artistic endeavors.)

So the most important thing for us to focus on in this stage is developing an identity and relationship to our power that is not based on sexual attraction.

Focus on recognizing that procreative energy is not just sexual; it is part of your overall personal power, and can be directed into all of your endeavors, particularly creative ones.

Early Adulthood: Sexuality, Mating, Conscious Understanding of Cycles

Ideally, our late teens and twenties are a period of developing our personal power, learning how to direct it through manifesting our goals, and consciously understanding our natural psycho-spiritual cycles. But if we have only come to own our personal power through our sexuality, our focus will be too heavily on attracting others. This happens to most of us to a certain extent, and few of us emerge from this period with our full personal power at our disposal. We lose an opportunity to gather ourselves up, in a sense, for our larger life's purposes, including our spiritual realization.

I believe that from a spiritual perspective, owning our personal power is the most valuable thing we can do during this phase - more valuable even than explicit spiritual study or practice. And we can own our personal power through any activity that we feel passionately about, and strive to excel within. Having concrete external goals during this phase helps teach us about the ebbs and flows of our energy cycles. That being said, developing a meditation practice during this time is particularly beneficial.

Focus on developing personal power, and manifesting it concretely within your life, whether that be through higher learning, career, sports, the arts, hobbies, or (of course) spirituality.

Pregnancy: Ride the Bliss, Release/Surrender, Enjoy Increasing Connection to the 'Other Side'

For those that choose to have children (more on that later), pregnancy can be an amazing time for developing your intuitive and creative abilities (nausea, backaches, and constipation aside, of course.) Ideally, you have come into this phase with a well-developed sense of your personal power and cycles (if not, these lessons are harder to access.) During pregnancy, your energy body gradually becomes more and more open, which can be disconcerting if you are constantly around people. On the other hand, if you can withdraw into yourself, you can sense your increasing connection to 'the other side' (I will leave this vague, like the term 'energy body', so that I can keep this non-denominational.) It is as if carrying a life within you has opened a doorway for that life to come through, and you can now go through that doorway the other way too.

This is a wonderful time to go inward. Meditate, read spiritual books, explore intuitive and creative interests, and of course, prepare yourself for the challenges ahead.

Focus on developing intuitive abilities and riding the bliss as part of being increasingly connected to the other side.

Motherhood: Carrying the Load, Balancing Energy Needs of Mother and Child

The 'doorway' of pregnancy closes pretty quickly post-partum, generally in the first eight weeks. In addition to the hormonal changes and sleep-deprivation, it can be brutal. That being said, some women glide right through this transition phase (more power to them.) If you have developed your spiritual awareness, this phase will be easier, as you will be capable of continuing to 'travel' to the meditative planes you discovered during pregnancy on your own.

Whether you will have the time or energy to do so is another matter! Your energy body is now literally extended outside your body, to encompass your baby (they don't call it the 'fourth trimester' for nothing.) You will not fully reclaim that energy for almost two decades (and some women never do). And the same is true for each additional child you have. On an energy level, motherhood is a sacrifice, plain and simple. Hopefully, it is a sacrifice of love. If so, it can bring you as much back spiritually as you put into it.

For that to happen, you have to make peace with the sacrifice, and you have to pace your energy use and development in accordance with your children's maturation. Ideally, at each phase of growth, your children own more and more of their own personal power, and you can take just a little bit more back for yourself. Gradually reclaiming this energy is key, and taking good enough care of yourself that you are not entirely swallowed up by motherhood, psychologically and energetically. This is primarily what spirituality is about during this phase.

Focus on striking the right energy balance between sustaining your child/children with energy appropriate for their age, and reclaiming your personal power as he/she/they grow up.

Maturity Childfree: Increased Gathering, Exploring Advanced Teachings

For women who do not have children (by choice or circumstance), the pre-menopause adult years are a tremendous spiritual opportunity. I feel it is very important to say this, because in many religious traditions, a women's spiritual worth seem to be equated with motherhood. Those who put this forth seem to be forgetting that most of the better known mystics in all religious traditions, male or female, have not had families, and in most cases, have been celibate.

While many people think this is for moral reasons, if you read the actual teachings in mystic traditions, it is clear that originally there was a recognition of the energy benefit of celibacy and/or childlessness. In fact, in the more complex energy-based yogas, such as some lineages of Tantric Buddhism and Kundalini yoga, remaining childless is considered a benefit or even a requirement in order to receive advanced teachings, especially for women. That is because in order to technically accomplish some of the practices, you must have access to 100% of your procreative energies, which these practices help you redirect into meditative techniques. A woman who has children simply has too much of her energy dispersed for much of her life. (Of course, a lot of women didn't live much past their childbearing years until the last century, so perhaps more mothers with grown children who have fully reclaimed their energy will explore this.)

This is not to say that we mothers cannot achieve enlightenment, or spiritual liberation, or whatever you wish to call it. It just makes certain energy techniques, and certain paths, more of a challenge, for certain periods of our mothering years. And childfree women do not have these particular challenges. So the sky's the limit! Explore your personal power, and spirituality of all types, particularly energy-based ones. Intuitive fields, divination, energy healing systems, and the creative arts also draw on this energy.

Focus on expanding your intuitive and energy knowledge, and redirecting your procreative energies into the mystic teachings of whatever spiritual tradition you are a part of.

Perimenopause: Transition to Mystic-hood

Perimenopause is the transition period leading into menopause, which physically can last anywhere from 1 to 10 years (which for most women would fall in their mid to late forties and early fifties). Unfortunately, this phase is not even recognized as a phase by many doctors and healers, because the signs can be slight and fluctuating, and because these traditions were originally developed primarily by men, based on an understanding of men's bodies.

Just as this is a period of physical transition with fluctuating symptoms and signs, so it is on the energy and spiritual levels. Ideally, a mother has reclaimed much of her energy for herself (or at the very least is out of the intense early childhood days), and a childfree woman has explored the mystic levels of her awareness. Both are now preparing for what can be a complete rebirth as a mystic during menopause.

On the energetic level, the entire perimenopausal period is a prepatory one. The monthly energy body cycles are starting to dissipate, and with appropriate preparation will settle into a permanent state of increased intuitive sensitivity and strength.

Focus on developing or continuing to deepen a meditation practice, and on exploring energy and mystics teachings that appeal to you.

Menopause: Birth of a Mystic

I use the word 'mystic' loosely, to refer to spiritual seekers and teachers that focus on personal and direct experience of divinity. To be a mystic does not imply enlightenment, but it does imply a certain approach to spirituality - not a philosophical one, but an awareness-based one. Our awareness is infinite, but we are usually too weighed down by our human thoughts and emotions, and our own sense of self, to experience most of them. Put generally, mystic spirituality is about getting outside of that human self, and traveling through our awareness, to other planes. This requires an unusual level of knowledge and control over both our awareness and energy body.

We can practice mysticism at any point during our lives, but as I've tried to outline here, there are challenges and distractions to our doing so at each prior stage of our lives. Ideally, at and after menopause, these are all gone. If we own our personal power and have developed our knowledge of the mystic levels of our awareness, menopause is a time we can take this to the limit, if we haven't already. Many Eastern and native traditions acknowledge this phase as the most spiritual time in a women's life. If we haven't become a mystic before this, know is the time.

Focus on fully reclaiming and/or owning your personal power, deepening your spiritual understanding and practices, and go for it - become a mystic, whatever that means to you.

Understanding where you are in your life cycle, and the energetic shifts that are occurring for you, can be tremendously helpful in owning your power, and moving forward spiritually in your life.

One of the 1st things you'll realize when its time to breast feed your little one is that your standard bra is now useless. Quick and easy access to your breasts when your newborn is hungry is almost impossible... so many straps to unhook. My first horror story goes like this: I was in the park with my baby when she started to cry. I quickly ran to my car to feed her. Lucky for me there was nobody in the park because I had to literally take off my shirt and bra to be able to feed my baby. Let me tell you, it was a lot of work. I'm pretty sure you also have your own horror story to tell.

Also the nursing bras come in many sizes, styles, fabrics, and colors. Today's nursing bras allow the cups to fold down or pull away for easy access when is time to breast feed your baby.

One important thing to remember when shopping for your nursing bra is to make sure it's 100% cotton, to allow your breasts to breathe. Cotton bras also help keep your nipple cool and dry.

You should start with 2 to 3 nursing bras and try them for fit and ease of use before you purchase more, suggests La Leche League International.

Understanding Breast Augmentation Surgery

The medical world is a fascinating one, and in terms of cosmetic surgery in particular, one that has come along in leaps and bounds over the past few decades. In the cosmetic procedure world, the consultation process is taken just as seriously as the surgery itself. It is important to consult with as many professionals as you feel you need to in order to be comfortable n secure in your decision--after all you are entrusting two of your most valuable assets to this person! Once you've settled on which doctor or practice you'd like to have the surgery done with, you can start to consult as to size and shape. while you may have an idea in mind, stay open to the suggestions of the professionals. After all, they have done this before and most likely will have some informative opinions on what look would suit your body-type and frame.

Australia Compared to The Rest of The World

In Australia, breast enlargement is very common, and in relation to the rest of the world we have an extremely low incidence of implant-related problems or issues. Even with so many surgeries being performed each day, the success rate and patient-satisfaction levels are at an all time high. Our surgeons are professional, well-trained and eager to listen to any questions or queries you may have, so you can rest assured that you will find someone who you feel completely confident with.

The Procedure Itself

The actual process of breast enlargement is complex, in order to make sure you get the desired lift, shape and size. The incision is customised to the implant and located underneath the breast, meaning scarring is almost invisible. The implant is inserted underneath the muscle in order to give you the most natural-looking results.

There are many reasons for a person to consider breast enlargement surgery, all of which are valid and meaningful to the person. The important decisions to make when deciding if surgery is for you are personal and based on individual consultation with professionals. Used Cosmetic Lasers - How to Choose the Best Solution for Your Beauty Salon

Choosing the right used cosmetic lasers can be quite daunting as there are numerous manufacturers selling them worldwide. Instead of investing a large sum on a brand-new cosmetic laser, selecting a used one can be quite beneficial. But, before making a purchase, it is crucial to carry out thorough research about the company that you are planning to buy it from. Also check the durability of the machine, among other information. Here's a guide on how to choose the right cosmetic laser for your beauty salon.

Understand Needs

Before choosing used cosmetic lasers, it is recommended to first understand and analyze your needs and budget. Even though they come at affordable prices, as a buyer you should know how much you want to invest and if such an investment is necessary. If a piece of equipment is affordable, but you have no intention of ever providing its service in your beauty salon, it will only be catching dust. So, understand what kind of service you want to provide and then make the purchase.

Research

Prior to purchasing used cosmetic lasers, it is recommended that thorough research be carried out. Here's what needs to be found out:

* Company: The first step to buying used IPL lasers is to find out about the company that is selling them. Is the company a reputable one? How is their financial standing in the market? Are their customers satisfied with their purchases? Are their business transactions conducted with integrity?

* Equipment: Once comprehensive research has been done about the company, select the equipment that interests you. Ensure that the item is in working condition. Take a note of its durability. Make sure that there is a warranty period mentioned.

* Service: Providing after-sales service is essential. Find out if the company provides repair of used cosmetic lasers that have been purchased from them. If past customers are satisfied with the service provided by the technicians and staff, it's the company to go with for purchasing IPL lasers.

Value for Money

When setting up a beauty salon, it is better to invest in a used cosmetic laser. They not only provide good service, just as a new one would, but they are far cheaper too. It benefits the business financially as well as provides customer satisfaction. There are several companies that sell IPL hair removal equipment online at discounted prices, making it extremely affordable to physicians, medical spas, and beauty salons.

So, before purchasing used cosmetic lasers, it is imperative to understand your needs and whether the equipment is within your budget. Ensure to carry out an in-depth study on the company from where you are planning to purchase the equipment. There are many companies selling online and offering fantastic deals. But, you need to make sure that you are not getting duped. Talk to former customers, read reviews about the company and the services they offer. Once you are convinced about the reliability of the company, you can go ahead and order for your used cosmetic laser.
