Kienholz, Back Seat Dodge '38

via: http://kunst.gymszbad.de/zab2006/ts-1/kienholz/kienholz.htm

1964 sculpture expressing the "bedroom on wheels" statement about the older generation who were sexualy charged teens in the 30's, but became hypocrites and criticized the 60's sexually charged teens.
So, why post it? I'd love to see a '38 Dodge customized like this, sort of looking like a COE

Monument to Emile Levassor

Emile Levassor; Pioneering car inventor, racer, and victor of the Paris-Bordeaux-Paris 1895 enduring 48 continuous hours of virtually nonstop driving, a feat possibly not yet repeated. Ok, it was at an average of 15 mph, but that was incredible for 1895.
This monument (raised in 1907) is likely the most grandious tributes ever erected to an automobilist.
Monument to the car
On November 26, 1907, a stone monument was inaugurated square Parodi, boulevard de l'Amiral Buix in Paris XVI °, in honor of Emile Levassor and pioneers of the industry and motorsport. The sculptor Jules Dalou represented Levassor driving the car on which he had won the race Paris-Bordeaux-Paris. This monument, funded by public subscription, was presented to the City of Paris.
(StillOutThere commented contrary, disagreeing about the monument... fact check before you post a disagreement on facts, I'm always wrong in my opinion, just ask my girlfriend... but rarely about facts StillOutThere... )

Very cool Mercury airbrushed quarterpanel

Trivia

The 1931 Royale had 36 inch rims / wheels. So big, they had to have tires made specially by Michelin. According to "The Automobile" by Cheetham, they were the largest ever fitted to a road car.

Car stats

California freeways:
75% of the cars on the freeways are newer than 1996.
1.2% are older than 1972

So why are the state politicians so focused on screwing with the emissions of the pre 1972 cars?

Briefly, the city of LA stop light cameras make 4 million a month, and LA says it's costing them 100,000 dollars a month.... yeah, they say they are losing on the stop light camera system.

My Two Dents on Mitsubishi's Poor Planning and Marketing

I always liked the idea of the FTO, a small, stylish coupe that could fit in below the Eclipse in Mitsubishi's lineup. For some reason, seeing this video today reminded me of the triple-diamond's good old days; you know, back when they put out cars like the twin-turbo, all-wheel-drive 3000GT VR-4 and the turbocharged GS-T and GS-X Eclipses.

They even teased fans with the turbo'd, AWD Eclipse Ralliart concept back in 2006; for some reason, nothing came of it. Who WOULDN'T buy a coupe-ified Evo?

2011 Bentley Continental GT Coupe Fuzzily Spied

These here are spy shots of the redesigned 2011 Bentley Continental GT coupe. The pictures are a tad grainy and admittedly not of the best quality, but they do give us a glimpse of the cosmetic changes Bentley is readying for its luxurious coupe model.

From what we can tell, the front-end of the refreshed Continental GT takes some styling cues from the new Mulsanne such as the big round inner headlights flanked by off-set smaller ones.

Efficient Dynamics, Meet Pod Racer: BMW Sequence GT Concept

The BMW Sequence GT is the brainchild of Seungmo Lim, a graduate student at Pforzheim University in Germany.

Lim explains that the "Electric Gran Turismo Sequence" project started out with two questions: 1) "How important is the appearance of green cars?", and 2) "What is 'Efficient dynamics'?"

"In other words these two questions mean, 'What kind of qualification does a blue or green car have to have in order to get a BMW badge in the future?'"

I've got no idea, so it's good that he came up with an answer: Combining "driving pleasure with blue architecture."

Senner Tuning's Audi S5 'White Beast' Does its best Wendigo impression

Senner Tuning has released its take on Audi's S5 Coupe. The call it the White Beast - apparently the Germans learned their "lesson" after last year's "White Power" RS6...

It wears a wide-inlet front fascia, while the rear apron comes from Rieger (done in "carbon look", something I wouldn't want on a Jetta, let alone an S5).

Can you guess what's coming next? Yup, there's also a lip spoiler on the trunk and LED tail lights. "But this is still not enough. As the name "White Beast" implies, not only the optics but also the engine power have been upgraded." And away we go.

Ford Video Teases Limited Run Focus RS500 with ~350HP

In five days from now (that's March 31), Ford will officially reveal the Focus RS500, a limited run version of the highly appraised Focus RS with a tweaked 2.5-liter turbocharged inline-five rumored to pump out somewhere around 350 horsepower.

In standard form, the RS's five-pot produces 305 ponies with power transferred to the front wheels through a six-speed manual gearbox.

Not much else is known about the Focus RS500, but we expect to see the special edition model featuring other mechanical as well as styling changes over the 305HP version. You can get a taste of the Euro market RS500 in the teaser video after the break.

One Hell of a Fender Bender: Pagani Zonda S Crash Turns $445,000 Repair Bill

Fans of Pagani's Zonda (that is, everyone) may want to turn away. In what could only be called a crime against nature, this Pagani Zonda S is said to have hit spun out and gotten intimate with a pole. That's what you call an "Oh sh!t" moment.

The result: one of the largest insurance claims filed for a privately-owned car in the UK (at £300,000 / ~$445,000), according to insurer Aviva.

Also, it's been said that the person behind the wheel was taking it for a test drive and that the owner was riding shotgun...

2011 Scion tC: Preview Pics Before New York Show Debut

Found on The College Driver, these pics appear to be a sneaky peeky at Scion's 2011 tC. It and a Scionized iQ should be popping up any day now.

You can tell by scrutinizing the interior details that some of it has been refreshed. The automatic tranny gets whatever you call the up/down sport-shift mode, and the HVAC knobs are more in-line with other current products.

XX-Rated: Ferrari 599 GTO Photos Leaked ?

[UPDATE - Apparently the photos of the 599 GTO are the real deal as the head of Ferrari's notoriously friendly legal department sent us a not so friendly email requesting the removal of the pics on the premise that they were shot inside a private area, a.k.a. the Italian automaker's Maranello factory. In other news, all pictures of the 599 GTO are available on the internet.]

As the world gets closer to the official reveal of Ferrari's 599 GTO, and just a short while after the price list was leaked, the internet has spewed out what appear to be pics of an official GTO show car.

Distinguishing features appear to include a new wheel design, duck tail spoiler and design cues straight off the 599XX (such as the matte black roof, extra cooling vents in the hood/fenders, angry rear diffuser and other aerodynamic bits). Too bad we can't see the face and driver's compartment. Anyway, we're sure those will show up soon enough.

Born in the USA: Lancia, Fiat, and Alfa Romeo Jobs Coming to North America

Automotive News reports that Fiat's Italian manpower is being cut by 5,000 (approximately 6.25% of its total workforce in Italy) while "increasing domestic production to 900,000 units in 2012 from 661,100 units in 2009."

Fiat's response: "Media speculation about the plan's contents [is] 'premature and groundless.'"

Part of the supposed shift involves a decrease in models built, from fourteen to nine, while ramping-up production of the survivors.

Hit really hard will be Fiat's plant in Mirafiori, Turin. "Mirafiori builds the Fiat Punto Classic, Idea and Multipla models, the Lancia Musa and Alfa MiTo. Fiat is remodeling the plant to use a single line to build the Alfa Romeo MiTo and two new small minivans to replace the Idea and Multipla."

Jason Graham Hot Rods in Portland Tennessee burned due to a shop fire Feb 22nd 2010, about a million dollars of hot rods and equipment are a total loss

The cause was not immediately determined. "
