Mercedes-Benz Technology pickup concept

There is something about conceptual designs that let the imagination go wild, but this one from Mercedes-Benz is pretty down to earth with their latest pickup concept that will come with DualX E-Drive drive solution, turning it into a plug-in and full-hybrid vehicle, running on an all-wheel drive system. A 70 kW electric motor will power it, where it can hit a top speed of 130km/h while boasting a range of approximately 300 km. The rather unconventional “Solar Top” will be able to generate enough juice to power a handful of electronics such as air-conditioning, although it isn't enough to keep the car running. You can choose from an eco mode, 4range for long range economical driving as well as 4dynamic for exhausting your batteries quickly, but you do get all-wheel drive performance in the process. How long will it take to move from concept to reality? We don't really know, but we can keep our fingers crossed.

Magic Sky Control roof in Mercedes-Benz SLK turns invisible(transparent) with touch of button

New year Mercedes will showcase its new SLK model with a Unique sky roof touch. This new sky roof, at the touch of a button it can be made either transparent or darkened.

In transparent mode it will offer an open-air experience during cold weather, while in darkened mode it will afford a haven of shade and prevent the interior from heating up in direct sunlight.

Mercedes-Benz will be the first auto maker to offer the new glass roof called the panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL as an optional extra in the new SLK next year.

This innovative glass shields against the sun’s rays far more effectively than conventional thermal insulation glass or sunblinds, there giving the user max climatic comfort .

The operating principle is based on the physics of a plate condenser: if the glass structure is subjected to an electrical voltage, particles in the structure position themselves so that light is able to pass through the glass. If the voltage remains switched off, however, the particles position themselves randomly. This partially blocks the light, and the glass remains dark. The control unit and converter are integrated into the front section of the roof, and the switch is in the overhead control console.

The panoramic vario-roof with MAGIC SKY CONTROL will be available to order as an optional extra for less than 2000 euros.

F1 Sao Paulo - More Friday Photos (MGP)

The first stage of this year's Brazilian Grand Prix kicked off yesterday on the Interlagos track from Sao Paulo. Although both practice rounds got underway well, with no incidents, for MERCEDES GP PETRONAS, a slight setback in improvement compared to the last races was mentioned by Michael Schumacher, who somehow struggled all day to finish on a higher position than Nico Rosberg. The rally car itself took a true turn in development in the 60's when many companies began to introduce special models of production vehicles made specifically for rallying. One such example that has since become known worldwide is the British made Mini Cooper and Mini Cooper S which were created in 1962 and 1963 respectively.

Many manufacturers then began to create special versions of existing cars just for the purpose of winning these rallies. One of the very first models specifically created to win rallies was the Lancia Stratos. To be able to bypass the rules on the entry being a true production model the makers would mass produce just as many as they needed to qualify as a true production car. The first four wheel drive rally car was produced by German manufacturer Audi in 1980 and was named the Quattro. Now there are companies that specialize in rally car experiences in which individuals can either ride in or drive rally cars under controlled conditions for an experience that can last a lifetime.
